2007-08 Season Recap

Under the direction of fourth year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Mount Holyoke College women’s basketball team compiled an overall record of 5-19 in 2007-08. The Lyons posted a 2-11 mark versus New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes.

Mount Holyoke’s season was highlighted by a thrilling 47-46 triumph over Smith College. The squad also picked up victories over Elms College (60-55), Western New England College (58-47), Emerson College (71-68 OT) and Clark University (73-57).
 
Sophomore forward Jessica Olson averaged a double-double to lead the way for the Lyons. Her 11.7 points per game were good for second on the team, and she also pulled down a club best 10.8 rebounds per outing. Olson collected nine double-doubles this year, giving her 15 for her career. Her 24 points and 21 boards versus the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute were both career highs.
 
Marisa BaroneMount Holyoke also received a boost from senior forward Marisa Barone, who tallied a team high 12.1 points per game to go with 7.1 boards per contest. She reached double digits in the scoring column 13 times this year and scored a career-best 21 points versus Clark. Barone recorded three double-doubles in 2007-08, giving her four for her career.
 
Guard Katie Austen enjoyed a breakout season on the offensive end for the Lyons, scoring 8.8 points per game. Her 71 assists and 44 steals were both squad bests. Austen poured in a career-high 22 points in Mount Holyoke’s victory over Elms.
