Player of the Week

Brandeis University junior guard Jessica Chapin has been named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week for the week of February 16-22. Chapin piled up 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 steals and 4.5 steals per game in a perfect 2-0 week for the Judges. She shot 54.5% (12-22) from the field and knocked down 41.7% (5-12) of her three point attempts. The guard was a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. In a 67-57 win over Emory University on Friday, Chapin collected 15 points, eight boards, five assists and five steals. She followed the with her third career double-double in a 76-56 triumph over Case Wsetern Reserve University on Sunday. In addition to her 17 points and ten rebounds, she posted a career best six assists and made four steals. With her five trifectas on the weekend, Chapin moved into second place on the Brandeis all-time career list with 116. Her 41 three pointers this year are just two shy of the Judges single season record.

Plymouth State University first year forward Alicia Doucet has been named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week for the week of February 16-2. In a 1-1 week for the Panthers, she registered 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per outing. On Tuesday, she totaled 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in a 74-56 setback against the University of Southern Maine. Doucet then exploded for 20 points and a season best 13 boards in Plymouth State's thrilling 68-59 overtime triumph over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday. It was her third double-double of the season. The forward also contributed four blocked shots and three steals in the two games.

  • Melissa Teel, Western Connecticut State University (So, C, Hamden, Conn.) - Teel averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Colonials. She drained 84.6% (10-13) of her attempts from the field and added three assists. In Western Connecticut's 62-59 triumph over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, she posted a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Teel added three blocked shots in her team's 20th win of the 2008-09 campaign.
  • Erin Porter, University of Maine at Farmington (Sr, G, Bangor, Maine) - Porter helped the Beavers to a perfect 3-0 week, collecting a pair of double-doubles in the process. The guard tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-54 victory over Lyndon State College on Friday. She followed that with an 18-point, 11-board performance in Maine Farmington's 71-60 win over Johnson State College the following day. She was a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line during the week.
  • Jess Mellen, Rivier College (Jr, F, Rockland, Mass.) - In a 2-0 week for the Raiders, Mellen averaged a double-double on 15.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. The forward also chipped in with 5.5 assists and 6.5 steals per contest. She shot 50.0% (12-24) from the field.
  • Kaileen Selen, WPI (Jr, G, Worcester, Mass.) - Selen averaged 14.0 points per game, as the Engineers secured their second NEWMAC regular season crown in the last three years with a pair of wins last week. Her 16 points highlighted WPI's key 60-56 triumph over Babson College on Wednesday. The guard added six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in the contest.
  • Terri Duffy, Colby-Sawyer College (Jr, F, Marshfield, Mass.) - Duffy averaged a double-double on 15.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Chargers. She finished with game highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 51-41 win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday. The forward followed that with a game best 14 boards in Colby-Sawyer's 54-47 victory over Western New England College on Saturday.

Milestones
  • Wheaton College senior forward Krystin Hickey surpassed the 1,500 point milestone in her team's 73-61 triumph over Clark University on Saturday. She is the Lyons all-time leading scorer. 
  • Bates College senior forward Val Beckwith finished her career with 1,470 points. She was just eight points shy of of the program record of 1,478 set by Emily King '00.
