Player of the Week |
 Julia Baily Tufts University • Senior • Forward • Farmington, Conn.
Tufts University senior forward Julia Baily has been named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week for the week of November 15-29. Baily pushed Tufts to a 3-1 start to the season, as she averaged a double-double on 20.3 points and 12.5 rebounds per outing. Over that time, she converted 45.1% (32-71) of her attempts from the field and shot 70.8% (17-24) from the charity stripe. The forward recorded double-doubles in all four contests. She posted 21 points, 10 boards and three blocks in the Jumbos heartbreaking 80-78 double overtime setback at SUNY New Paltz (11/20), and she followed that up with a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in her team's 68-60 victory over York College in the consolation game of the Rino's Pizza Tip-Off Classic the following day (11/21). Baily recorded her third double-double on 20 points and 15 boards in the Jumbos 75-64 triumph over Endicott College last Tuesday (11/24). She then erupted for 20 points and 15 caroms, as Tufts upset nationally ranked Brandeis University 60-50 on Sunday (11/29). |

Rookie of the Week |
Curran Leighton University of Southern Maine • First Year • Forward • Dover, N.H.
University of Southern Maine first year forward Curran Leighton has been named New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week for the week of November 15-29. With Leighton leading the way, the Huskies have jumped out to a 4-1 record thus far this season. The forward has recorded 15.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing to go with a shooting percentage of 48.3 (29-60). She has also amassed 15 steals, 11 assists and seven blocked shots. After falling 72-55 to the University of New England in its first contest of the season (11/17), Southern Maine has run off four straight wins. Despite the loss, Leighton was outstanding in her collegiate debut, as she tallied 18 points. The forward posted 14 points in her team's 74-50 triumph over Curry College in the opening round of the Dunkin' Donuts Tip-Off Tournament (11/20). She then registered her first collegiate double-double on 10 points and 10 boards in the Huskies 64-34 win over the University of Maine Farmington in the event's Championship the following day (11/21). In a 71-52 win over Bates College on Tuesday, Leighton piled up 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. She then closed out the week with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists in Southern Maine's 67-50 victory over St. Joseph's College on Sunday. |

- Melissa Teel, Western Connecticut State University (Jr, C, Hamden, Conn.) - Teel averaged 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game in leading Western Connecticut State University to a 3-1 record. She shot a blistering 67.6% (25-37) from the field and collected 25 offensive rebounds. The center also dished out five assists and came up with six steals.
- Terri Duffy, Colby-Sawyer College (Sr, F, Marshfield, Mass.) - Duffy averaged a double-double on 14.5 points and 11.0 boards per game, as Colby-Sawyer College recorded a 2-2 record over the past two weeks. The forward became the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points mark after scoring a 17 in a 66-60 loss to Suffolk University on Tuesday.
- Alison Cappelloni, Colby College (Sr, F, Sudbury, Mass.) - Cappelloni has tallied 13.0 points and 6.7 boards per outing to catapult Colby College to a 3-0 start. The forward has converted 54.5% (12-22) of her attempts from the field and 77.8% (7-9) of her shots from beyond the arc. She has also been solid at the free throw line, making 88.9% (8-9) of her tries. Cappelloni exploded for 21 points in the Mules 77-39 victory over the University of Maine Farmington on Tuesday, putting her over 900 for her career.
- Melissa Martinelli, Coast Guard Academy (Sr, F, Vero Beach, Fla.) - Martinelli averaged 25.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, as theCoast Guard Academy split its first two games of the season. She shot 54.5% (18-33) from the floor and 73.7% (14-19) from the charity stripe. The forward posted a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Bears season opening 54-34 win over Wheelock College (11/17). She followed that up with 26 points and seven rebounds in a 70-60 loss to Johnson & Wales University (11/21).
- Amanda Kania, Plymouth State University (Jr, F, Manchester, N.H.) - Kania has averaged 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per outing to help Plymouth State University to a perfect 4-0 start to the 2009-10 campaign. The forward has knocked down seven three pointers and has converted 48.1 (25-52) of her shots from the floor overall. She exploded for 26 points and 11 rebounds in the Panthers 67-43 win over Castleton State College on Tuesday.
