2007 Recap
For the tenth year in a row, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team qualified for the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament. The Lyons squared off against nationally ranked Springfield College in the quarterfinal round, falling 3-0. They closed out the 2007 season with an overall record of 7-9 and a league mark of 4-4.
The Lyons rebounded from a season opening loss to pick up three straight victories, including a pair at the Seven Sisters Classic. Mount Holyoke hosted the annual event, officially unveiling its new turf field facility in the process. Following their 3-1 start, the Lyons fell in four of their next five outings. They closed out the year with four triumphs over their last seven matches. In NEWMAC contests, head coach tenth year head coach Andy Whitcomb led the club to victories over MIT, Smith College, Clark University and WPI. Juniors Jaimie Macari and Anne Doton each earned NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference accolades. They were also selected to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III New England Second Team.
An All-Regional performer as a first year player in 2005, Macari turned in another fine effort for the Lyons this fall. The forward paced the team with 13 goals and four assists. She recorded a hat trick, including the match-winner in Mount Holyoke’s 7-0 triumph over Bryn Mawr College. Macari was also responsible for the winner in the squad’s 3-2 victory over Clark University.
Doton enjoyed a breakout season on the offensive side of the ball for the Lyons. The midfielder found the cage four times and assisted on a squad-best eight others.
Sophomore forward Mary Kate Switchenko delivered seven goals and three helpers, while senior midfielder Claire Emery and sophomore forward Katelyn Frick notched four goals apiece. Junior Allie Walsh was the Lyons featured goalkeeper in 2007. She recorded 137 saves en route to a goals against average of 2.18 and a save percentage of .820 in 962:20 minutes played. Walsh finished the year with seven wins and a pair of shutouts.
