2008-09 Season Recap
Under the direction of eighth year head coach Shawn Durocher, the Mount Holyoke College golf team took part in 11 competitions during the 2008-09 season.
The Lyons participated in five tournaments during the fall. Sophomore Aliza Hanif set the tone, posting second place at the Williams College Fall Classic and fourth place at the Wellesley College Invitational.
After an 11th place result in its season opener at the Dartmouth College Invitational, Mount Holyoke rebounded to take second place at its home Invitational the following weekend. First year Alexandra Irish turned in a brilliant performance, finishing in third place overall with a score of 159 on the par-72 course.
The Lyons followed that with fifth and third place showings at the Wellesley College Invitational and the Middlebury College Invitational, respectively. They then closed out their fall slate with a third place showing at Williams. Hanif recorded a two day score of 156. Sophomore Sarah Keating chipped in with a seventh place result.
Mount Holyoke competed in six more tournaments in the spring. Hanif continued her strong play, taking top team honors four times. Seniors Martha Elson and Kathleen Banaszak also posted outstanding results.
The Lyons kicked off their spring slate with a ninth place showing at the Jekyll Island Invitational in Georgia. They placed fifth at the Vassar College Invitational before returning home for the Massachusetts State Invitational. Despite an outstanding effort from Banaszak, the team was narrowly edged out by first place Amherst College. Banaszak fired an 82 and took third place overall.
Following a seventh place result at the Jack Leaman Championship, Mount Holyoke closed out its season with second place finishes at both the Williams College Spring Invitational and the Wellesley College Spring Invitational. Hanif carded a third place score of 157 at Williams to lead the way.
