MHC Athletics LogoAwards Handed Out at Annual Athletic Banquet
The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration on Wednesday evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Associate Athletic Director Lori Hendricks served as the event's emcee.

NEWMAC LogoNEWMAC Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Squads
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its 2008 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty-four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the women's lacrosse, women's outdoor track and field and women's rowing.

Peggy WefaldNEWMAC Announces Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Awards
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its 2008 women's lacrosse postseason awards. For the second season in a row, Babson College senior Anita Martignetti was named NEWMAC Player of the Year. Teammate Sarah Macary earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Vanessa Cox of MIT was selected as the league's Coach of the Year. Mount Holyoke College received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship award.

Springfield Eliminates Mount Holyoke, 22-5

The second seeded Springfield College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 22-5 triumph over seventh seeded Mount Holyoke College this evening in the opening round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament at Stagg Field. It was the Pride's eleventh straight win over the Lyons dating back to the 2000 season. They grabbed a 19-4 victory when the two clubs met earlier this spring.

Lacrosse SeniorsStrong Second Half Pushes Babson Past Lacrosse, 15-5
Paced by senior midfielder Anita Martgnetti, the Babson College women's lacrosse team earned a 15-5 victory over Mount Holyoke College this afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. Martgnetti totaled five points on four goals and one assist.

Paced by senior Laura Watson, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team handed visiting Mount Holyoke College a 17-2 setback today in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Jack Barry Field. The midfielder set the tone for the Engineers, netting five goals and assisting on another.

Sophomore midfielder Shannon Manning piled up eight points on six goals and a pair of assists to power the Bridgewater State College women's lacrosse team to a convincing 22-13 victory over non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College today at the Edward C. Swenson Athletic Field Complex. It was the Bears fourth win in a row and seventh in their last eight outings.

Senior attacker Sara Smyth found the net four times, as the Smith College women's lacrosse team downed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College this evening in Northampton, Mass. It was the Pioneers first league win of the 2008 campaign.

Mount Holyoke College sophomore Peggy Wefald was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse Player of the Week following her outstanding play in contest's from April 7 - April 13. It was the first time in her career that she has earned NEWMAC weekly accolades.

Danielle BabcockScoring Outburst Propels Lacrosse Past Norwich, 23-11
Led by sophomore Peggy Wefald, the Mount Holyoke College women's lacrosse team sprinted to a 23-11 victory over Norwich University this afternoon in non-conference action at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. In the first ever meeting between the schools, the Lyons established new program records for goals in a game (23) and points in a game (34 - 23 goals, 11 assists).

Junior midfielder Emily Mason posted four goals to propel the Connecticut College women's lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field. It was the Camels 18th straight win over the Lyons, dating back to 1990.

The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire in a 17-11 victory over non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College today at the 2008 Spring Fling at Lake Lytal Park. It was the Saints first win of the 2008 campaign. Mount Holyoke, which was playing its first of two spring break games in Florida, fell to 1-3.

The Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team found the win column for the first time this season, defeating non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College 20-11 this afternoon in its home opener. Senior Jessica Scheno and sophomore Courtney Bedocs each scored twice during a 9-0 spurt down the stretch that sealed things for the Warriors.

With their first win of the 2008 campaign, the Lyons bumped their record to 1-1. Keene State fell to 0-2.

The Golden Bears spoiled the Lyons season opener and grabbed their second win in a row.

The Mount Holyoke College women's lacrosse program will begin a new era in 2008, as Miriam Esber begins her first season at the helm. Esber joined the Lyons staff in August after a three-year stint as the head coach at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y.
