2007-08 Season Recap

With 24th year head coach C.J. Law at the helm, the Mount Holyoke College riding team produced outstanding results in 2007-08. The Lyons won the Tournament of Champions and claimed the Reserve Championship for Zone 1, Region 3. Out of their eight regular season shows, they picked up four High Point Championships.

For the second year in a row, Mount Holyoke earned top honors at the Pre-Season Tournament of Champions Horse Show, which was hosted by St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C.

The Lyons opened up their regular season slate with a High Point Championship at the Becker College Intercollegiate Horse Show. Sophomore Tracey Mack, turned in an outstanding performance, collecting both the overall High Point Rider and High Point Open Rider titles. Mount Holyoke added another High Point Championship the next weekend at the Williams College Intercollegiate Horse Show.

RidingFollowing a third place performance at the University of Massachusetts Intercollegiate Horse Show, the Lyons took fourth at their home show. They rounded out the fall portion of their schedule with a High Point title at the Amherst College Intercollegiate Horse Show.

At the conclusion of its fall season, Mount Holyoke was invited take part in the Holiday Tournament of Champions in Hackettstown, N.J. Facing off against 26 teams from around the nation, the Lyons finished on top.

The Tournament of Champions Winter Classic took place in Chatham, Va. at the end of January. Mount Holyoke claimed third place at the event to secure its first Tournament of Champions Series title since the 2001-02 campaign.

Entering the spring portion of their schedule, the Lyons trailed the University of Massachusetts by just one point in the Zone 1, Region 3 overall standings. Led by first year Elizabeth Tripp, they rode to a High Point Championship at the University of Massachusetts Intercollegiate Horse Show. Tripp was the High Point Intermediate Rider at the event.

Mount Holyoke finished as the Reserve Champion in each of its remaining two regular season shows. Sophomore Lora Ciborowski claimed Novice High Point Rider honors at the Lyons home show, and first year Michelle Piccione repeated the feat at the Smith College Intercollegiate Horse Show. She was also the overall High Point Rider at the competition.

A total of 18 Mount Holyoke riders qualified for the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships. Eight of those advanced to the Zone 1 Championships.
