2008 Soccer Blog - Week 2

by Emily Lomax - September 12, 2008

Last weekend, the Mount Holyoke soccer team attended the Drew Invitational Tournament in New Jersey. The weekend promised good competition, wonderful hotel rooms, a fun train ride to New York City and really bad weather. On Saturday, we played a game against Drew University. We had to start the game early, because the storms were coming in. We also had to play the game on turf. So, the weather was really muggy, the turf was wet, and the ball had a mind of its own. In fact, the weather was so muggy that my shirt and my shorts were soaked through by the end of the game. The team played really hard, and the game was really fun, but unfortunately, we ended up losing 1-0.

Soccer Team FunAfter the game, the team had to rush back to the hotel to shower, get changed and get ready for the train ride to New York City. After we returned to the hotel, the skies opened, and the rain came. I was personally really glad that we did not have to play soccer in the rain because of my cleats! They would have been ruined! But even though we did not have to play soccer in the rain, we did have to go to New York City in the rain. The team got to the train station, and we were early. We waited for the train for 30 minutes and amused ourselves by taking pictures and hanging out.

The train came, we rode it to New York City, and we were whisked by Coach out of the station into the pouring rain and into a restaurant, where we all gorged ourselves on family style Italian food. After dinner it was still raining so hard that most of us went to Borders to get hot chocolate, warm up and get ready for the walk back to the station. Some other people Soccer Team Funwere more adventurous and went in search of a candy store and ice cream. The train ride back was fun, because a couple of the soccer teammates (you know who you are) were resourceful enough to buy mad libs.

Our second and last game of the weekend was against Arcadia. The weather was not muggy. It was sunny out, and the game was very successful, because we won! We beat Arcadia 2-1, which was very satisfying. After the game, we hurried to the bus and Doug, who then drove us back to MHC. The team worked really hard, but also played really hard. The weekend was definitely a success.
