2008 Soccer Blog - Week 4

The game against the Lesley felt like a game of good versus evil, light versus dark. I suppose it felt like that due to our jersey colors. We were in white, while the Lynx were in Black. I wasn’t nervous about the game. I knew their team was undefeated, but I had full confidence in my team. I knew we could beat them. We also had some lucky charms on our side as well! One of the local South Hadley youth league teams came to watch our game. They cheered with us at the beginning of the game and also ran out with the starters. Their team name was the Panthers, and they all sported their blue and white uniform shirts. They were by far our loudest fans, shouting chants like, “Give me an L! Give me a Y! Give me an O! Give me an N! What’s that spell? LYON!!” They repeated those chants throughout the night and gave a lot of encouragement to our girls on the field.

Lesley scored on us first, but we came right back at them with a goal in response to theirs. By halftime, the score was 1-1. In the second half, we scored two goals, putting us in front 3-1. They then followed our two goals with one of their own to cut our lead to 3-2. Well, the Lyons just couldn’t disappoint our Panther fans along with our other fans that came out to support us, so we scored again! The final score was 4-2. After the game, the Panthers came up to our team and ran our cool down with us. They didn’t understand what our “baby-jog” was, which is a slower trot-like jog. So, the Pirates decided to race instead of baby-jogm, and they sprinted to the end line. When we circled up to do our stretching, they came up to us and asked us all for our autographs. We all felt like rock stars that night, with a win against an undefeated team, and adoring fans asking for our autographs. What more could a team want?
