2008-09 Season Recap
Led by 11th year head coach David Allen, the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team recorded a dual meet record of 3-6 in 2008-09. The Lyons defeated Elms College twice and added a win over Simmons College.
Mount Holyoke picked up a fourth place finish at the Seven Sisters Championships. The team then rounded out its season with a tenth place showing at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
Lindsay Schonborn racked up 24 first place finishes over the course of the year to lead the way. The junior was dominant in the breaststroke events as well as the 200-yard individual medley. She teamed with Sarah Rooney, Shannon Sutherland and Michelle Kroll to record three victories in the 200-yard medley relay.
Mount Holyoke also received a boost from Rooney, who posted a team best nine relay victories. Individually, the first year tallied three wins apiece in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races. Classmate Lydia Bowers notched first place results in the 50-yard freestyle five times and the 100-yard freestyle on four occasions. Bowers matched Rooney with nine relay wins, while Kroll added seven. Other key contributors were senior Lisa Nash and first year Mary Kate Miller.
Nash made an impact outside the pool as well. In addition to chairing the College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), she was selected to receive the prestigious National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Administrator of Tomorrow Award. The honor recognizes outstanding leadership in intercollegiate athletics by an undergraduate student, graduate student, intern or volunteer.
