2008 Season Recap

In her first season as head coach of the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team, Sonnie Terrell posted an overall record of 4-15. Her squad went winless in league play. The Lyons captured the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row.

Mount Holyoke gathered three wins in its first four contests, defeating Bay Path College 3-0, Elms College 3-2 and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 3-0. After blanking St. Joseph College of Connecticut 3-0, the Lyons dropped their final 11 matches of the season.

In addition to their always competitive Conference slate, Mount Holyoke also hosted the annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament.

Chelsea TracyOutside hitter Chelsea Tracy enjoyed an outstanding senior season. In 19 matches played, she piled up 2.98 kills and 2.38 digs per set. Tracy posted five double-doubles. She recorded ten or more kills nine times and ten or more digs seven times. The outside hitter came up with 25 blocks and 16 service aces.

Mount Holyoke also received solid production from sophomore defensive specialist Rosa Marruffo, who tallied 1.48 kills and 2.73 digs per set along with a team best 30 service aces. Sophomore setter Kateryna Kuc directed the Lyons offensive attack, dishing out 5.53 assists per set. On the defensive end, libero senior Kathryne Schwartz amassed a squad high 4.14 digs per set. Senior right side hitter Amanda Trask chipped in with 1.20 kills and 2.27 digs per set.
