Overview
Mount Holyoke offers 14 varsity sports programs and seven competitive club sports teams. A member of the NCAA Division III and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), MHC competes among many top-ranked teams and long-time local rivals. The College is dedicated to the NCAA Division III philosophy of making athletics an integral part of the educational experience and creating an opportunity for student-athletes to become well-rounded individuals. Emphasis on academic excellence is also a defining criterion for membership in the NEWMAC, which includes Babson, Clark, Coast Guard, MIT, Mount Holyoke, Smith, Springfield, Wellesley, Wheaton, and WPI. Nine varsity programs also compete in annual Seven Sisters championships, which began in 1980 and include teams from Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Smith, Swarthmore, Vassar, and Wellesley.
Recent Achievements During the 2005–2006 academic year, many Mount Holyoke athletes received individual recognition, including two All-America, seven All-Region, three Academic All-America, one national riding title, six NEWMAC Players of the Week, 54 NEWMAC All-Academic honorees, and 18 NEWMAC All-Conference selections. In addition, the riding team won its third IHSA National Championship, and the basketball team won its first-ever ECAC New England Division III title.
