Yale SURF Program

One to two students per summer will spend eight weeks at Yale University, familiarizing themselves with the kind of work that they can expect to do in graduate school. Students immerse themselves in an academic, professional setting involving a working relationship with a Yale faculty mentor.

The SURF program is intended for students with a strong desire to pursue careers in research at the Ph.D. level and in the area of Biology. The program is particularly interested in identifying and providing research experience to talented underrepresented minority students, but all students who are U.S. citizens may apply. Preference is given to students completing their sophomore or junior years.

This program is in partnership with Yale University.  The amount of the award is $3000, in addition housing is provided by Yale University.
Mount Holyoke students need only compete with other MHC students for the MHC-Yale partner slots in the program.

MHC students should follow the Universal Application deadline for admission to this program and try to identify Yale faculty advisors in advance.  In addition, notify Katie Walker of your application to the program and include the nature of your project and whether you've made connections with Yale faculty.  Decisions will be made immediately after the UAF deadline in late February early March, and you should expect and be prepared to provide a decision of your acceptance to the Yale MHC committee quickly after being contacted.  You will be required to fill out Yale's application form once you have accepted the award in order to secure your position at Yale.
