Harvest Festival

Come enjoy the 3rd annul harvest festival of MHC's student organic garden. Have fun with picking up eggplants, papers...and learn how you get involved with the garden. Crafts, snacks and music will be present!

4:00 P.M. -5:30 P.M., Blanchard Campus Center, Lantern Green
Learn what the Green Partners are doing-- and how you can help- to conserve energy, recycle materials, and reduce MHC's ecological footprint. Ice-cream will be scooped!

A Volunteer Day with Gardening the Community
meet at 4:15 P.M. in front of Center for the Environment office
Gardening the Community is a youth-centered community based urban agriculture project in Springfield, MA. Through growing organic food and riding bicycles in the city, they introduce and foster principles of sustainable living. CE has organized a volunteer day on Friday October 2--a wonderful opportunity for you to get your hands dirty with people from the community, learn about urban agriculture and sustainable community building  in one of GTC's lovely urban gardens.

Kestrel Trust - "5k for Farmland"
Founded in 1970, The Kestrel Trust is a non-profit regional land trust protecting farms and forests in the Pioneer Valley. A 5K Road Race and 2 Mile Walk will take place on October 18, 2009 to benefit the Kestrel Trust and commemorate Hadley's 350th Anniversary.

Join the MHC faculty members in a community discussion about the climate issues that individuals and populations will face at both local and global levels. An Evening with Singer/Songwriter Erica Wheeler
7:30 P.M., Blanchard Campus Center,Great Room
Erica Wheeler is an awardwinning singer/songwriter and national touring artist. Erica has five critically acclaimed recordings to her credit. She has facilitated “The Soulful Landscape” writing workshop and offered keynote concerts at conferences and events across the country, including the National Land Trust Annual Rally, The Forest Guild Annual Meeting, Antioch New England Graduate School, The Walden Woods Institute, and more. Her extensive background in the performing arts, combined with her life-long passion for environmental studies, cultural history and spirituality provide a unique and transformative experience.
