Background The Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA), was launched in 1987 when a group of environmental grantmakers met in Washington, DC, to explore their common ground and to learn more about the interests and goals of each other's specific programs. Today, EGA is an international network of environmental grantmakers with members representing over 220 foundations from around the world. EGA facilitates collaboration and networking among member organizations, and seeks to further the mission of creating an environmentally sustainable, just world through effective grantmaking. This internship is part of EGA's Enhancing the Field Project, which promotes our core values of diversity/inclusivity and eco-sustainability through all EGA organizational practices and encourages our membership to do the same.
Fellowship The EGA internship would be ideal for students with a serious interest in social and environmental issues, eco-sustainability, communications, and the field of grantmaking.
The intern would work on a mutually agreed-upon research topic, focusing on diversity issues and the environmental movement and/or environmental philanthropy. The research would result in a paper presented to EGA staff by the end of the summer. The intern would also assist with the planning for the Fall Retreat and contribute to EGA's "Tracking the Field" research project. "Tracking the Field" is a research-based initiative that explores trends in environmental philanthropy and analyzes these for distribution and consumption amongst our members. In an effort to keep members apprised of trends in environmental grantmaking and to support their efforts in 'tracking the field' of the broader environmental movement
Her work would serve as a tool for furthering connections in environmental philanthropy to prioritizing diversity and/or linking the environmental movement to work in social justice movements, depending on the focus of the study.
For specific questions on EGA contact Lea Palabrica, development and membership manager, mailto: membership@ega.org or 646.747.2655.
Applicants should strongly consider using this internship opportunity toward a research project or independent study.
