Barbara J. Desoer '74

Barbara J. Desoer is Chief Technology and Operations Officer for Bank of America and a member of the bank's Risk & Capital and Management Operating committees. In this role, Desoer leads strategy development and execution for the bank's technology platforms and operations capabilities. She also is responsible for Corporate Workplace, the U.S. Trust and Card Services Transition and Global Quality and Productivity. Desoer also leads the continued development and implementation of the company's increasingly important payments strategy.

Desoer previously was Consumer Products executive for Bank of America. Her primary responsibilities included the Card Services, Consumer Deposit Products, Consumer Real Estate and Insurance businesses, as well as the Consumer Risk Operations Group.

Desoer joined the bank in 1977. After a variety of commercial lending and credit administration assignments, she served as executive assistant to two chief executive officers. She then held a number of retail banking assignments and was named group executive vice president responsible for the California Retail Banking Group in 1996. In 1998 she was promoted to president of Northern California banking. Desoer was a marketing executive from 1999 until July 2001. In addition, she is a past chair of the bank's internal Diversity Advisory Council.

Desoer received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Mount Holyoke College and a master's degree in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley. She serves on the Advisory Council of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley and the Business Advisory Council of the Belk College of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. Desoer also serves on the board of directors of Novant Healthcare, and she is a member of the board of trustees of the Providence Day School in Charlotte.
