Mary Lyon's Grave
Mary Lyon, Mount Holyoke's
founder, was buried on campus when she died in 1849. Some of the school's
trustees helped to install the massive Italian marble monument that
marks her grave. Each year at commencement, the senior class and alumnae,
who have returned to campus for their reunion, join together for the
Laurel Parade, which concludes at Lyon's grave. There, they adorn
the iron fence surrounding the grave with a garland of laurel. |
