Claire:

“As a prospective student, you come to the college, and they put on this big showcase of all kinds of different Mount Holyoke orgs and student talents and stuff. And that’s the first time that I got sort of a glimpse of Mount Holyoke a capella, which is something that immediately I knew I wanted to be a part of, and my second semester I auditioned for the Milk and Cookies. There are five a capella groups of campus, so they each have their own different personality and style, and it’s really exciting to be able sort of — once you get a good idea of what they’re all about and the style of their repertoire, and the personality of the group — you can sort of become — choose which one you sort of feel like you might fit the best with. What’s great is that they are all incredible, so you have really good choices … So my second semester here I auditioned and I was lucky enough to be called back, very nervous, and it was very exciting. You don’t know how many people they are going to take. Then when they decide to take you, they come and they sing you in with a traditional Milk and Cookies song, and they present you with a big cookie. I just remember being so excited to be a part of this great group love to make music together, and it was so obvious that they just had so much fun… We do a lot of different performances and traveling. We’re making a CD this semester. So it’s been a really, really interesting thing to be a part of, and I’m so excited that I still have four more semesters to be a part of the group.”
