Innovation
Fund
The draft Plan for Mount Holyoke 2010 invites the College
to begin a collective self-study over the next few years. Among
the key questions under consideration are: What does it mean to
study--and profess--the liberal arts in the twenty-first century?
How can we invigorate, perhaps re-imagine, our collective academic
enterprise? Through the generous support of a $40,000 grant from
the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Academic Priorities Committee
will implement the newly-created Innovation Fund (described in The
Plan for Mount Holyoke 2010, p. 6, sect. II.H., "Encouraging
New Ideas"). The Fund offers faculty, staff, and the students
opportunities for innovation by awarding grants in support of projects
that stimulate thinking about the various goals (academic and curricular,
pedagogic and administrative) articulated by the Plan itself.
The Academic Priorities Committee invites all members of the Mount
Holyoke community to propose projects on a range of topics, including
retreats, workshops, seminars, or other kinds of working groups.
Potential areas of rethinking might include curricular innovation;
interdisciplinary initiatives; study away/abroad proposals; re-imagining
January Term; pilot projects, etc. We encourage applications that
involve students in the project.
Process: Please submit a two-page proposal (articulating importance
of the project), budget, supporting materials (if applicable), etc.,
by May 1 to Donald Weber, c/o APC, Department of English. Awards
announced by June 1.
