Grading Policy

Policy on Late Work

Final Grades and Grading Curves

Grading Scale

All work is graded based on the approximate, relative amount of effort that I expect you to put into each assignment. Numerically, this is equivalent to the following scale:

Lab 1: 10%
Lab 2: 15%
Lab 3: 15%
Final Paper: 35% (of which 15% is based on your review)
Weekly writing assignments: 15%
Class participation: 10% (includes final presentation)

You are encouraged to contact me at regular intervals to discuss your class performance, especially with respect to class participation.

Policy on Late Work

Late work is first graded. A late penalty of 5% per day late is assessed on deducted from the assigned grade. For example, a lab that receives a numerical score of 90 out of a possible 100 would be graded as follows:

 Days Late Grade

0

90

1

85.5

2

81

... ...

Final Grades and Grading Curves

No curve is used in assigning final grades in this course. Grades are assigned according to the following scale:

A: 96-100% of possible points

A-: 90-95%

B+: 87-89%

B: 83-86%

B-: 80-82%

C+: 77-79%

C: 73-76%

C-: 70-72%

etc.
