Cumulative GPA
The Mount Holyoke College Grading system in the 1950s was different than the one used today. It used a scale from 1 to 6 with 1 the highest grade. The grading system is described in detail below.

It sure looks like a normal curve!!!

Definition of Marks
1 = Distinguished. Work of excellence and distinction. A grade which, by its relative infrequency of occurrence, connotes unusually high achievement consistently maintained.
2 = Superior. Work showing such qualities as superior organization, constructive ability, accuracy, originality.
3 = Good. Work which meets all essential requirements in quality and quantity but is not superior.
4 = Fair. Work which meets most requirements in quality and quantity but falls short of grade 3 work.
5 = Passing. Work of inferior quality or quantity, yet deserving of credit in the course.
6 = Failing. Work deserving of no credit in the course.
Failure in a single course indicates little aptitude or application on the part of the student in that particular subject, and no special penalty is attached thereto; failure in a number of courses is indicative of unfitness for college work and cause for exclusion.
