Religion
“The College is distinctly Christian but nondenominational, welcoming students of every faith.” – Mount Holyoke College Handbook, 1951

During this semester, religion was an issue discussed repeatedly both in the classroom and during our interview with the ‘55ers on April 30, 2004. Although present day students were correct in assuming that Protestants were the majority of the student population in the 1950s, they were surprised to see that Catholics were 12 percent and Jews 11 percent of the class of 1955. There were few students with “no” religious affiliation recorded on their yellow card.
