Recent Innovations in Green Practices at Colby College

Colby College is a model of innovative campus technology that has set an example for other colleges of its size. The Environmental Advisory Group at Colby (“Green Colby”) was formed by faculty, staff, and students to address the environmental initiatives of the campus. Its objective is to inform the College president and community on issues related to environmental stewardship of the campus.

Composting-- food wastes are collected and composted

Energy-- replacing standard fluorescent light bulbs with low mercury bulbs

Water-- only low-flow shower heads are now installed on campus

Waste Reduction-- recycled paper products are used and waste materials are recycled whenever possible

Environmental Literacy-- last year, the last week in April was devoted to Earth Week activities, which included an all-day expo in the student center where student groups and campus initiatives had informational displays aimed at raising awareness among students.
