Study guide for Exam 1
The exam will have two parts. One part will be given in class on March 2nd. The other part will be given out on March 2nd and due back at the beginning of class on March 7th. It will cover sections 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
The in-class exam:
This portion of the exam is to be taken without the use of notes, books, calculators, or any other aids.
You should be able to:
- determine the limit of a sequence from a formula and give a formal proof that its limit is what you claim using the definition of convergence.
- prove the theorems in sections 9 and 10 in our text.
- reproduce proofs from your homework sets.
- state the major definitions in the course so far.
The take-home exam:
From the end of class on March 2nd until the beginning of class on March 7th, you are not to discuss anything about real analysis with anyone except for your instructor.
During the take-home portion of the exam you are welcome to consult your old homework assignments (but no one else's) as well as class notes and our text. The aids listed are the only ones permitted. Consulting the internet about anything related to real analysis is strictly forbidden during this time.
