Study guide for Exam 2
The exam will have two parts. One part will be given in class on April 13. The other part will be given out on April 13th and due back at the beginning of class on April 18th. It will cover sections 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 23, 26.
The in-class exam:
This portion of the exam is to be taken without the use of notes, books, calculators, or any other aids.
You should be able to:
- state and apply tests for the convergence of series
- find the interval of convergence of a power series with justification.
- reproduce proofs from your homework sets.
- state the major definitions in the course so far and be able to say what it means for the definitions to fail to hold. (For the second part, I'm thinking of, say, what does it mean if a function fails to be continuous, etc.)
- reproduce the proofs of theorems and discussion problems from class.
The take-home exam:
From the end of class on April 13th until the beginning of class on April 18th, you are not to discuss anything about real analysis with anyone except for your instructor.
During the take-home portion of the exam you are welcome to consult your old homework assignments (but no one else's) as well as class notes and our text. The aids listed are the only ones permitted. Consulting the internet about anything related to real analysis is strictly forbidden during this time.
