Text: Calculus: Multivariable, McCallum, Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, et al, Wiley, 5th ed., ISBN 0470131586.

Textbooks will be on sale at the Odyssey Bookstore. If you choose to purchase the text from another source it is your responsibility to make sure that you have the correct edition ready for use when classes begin. Please do note that we are using the 5th edition this semester, as Odyssey could not get the 4th in stock. The editions are very similar, but the exercises may differ in order or content. I recommend that you use the 5th edition. If you decide to use an older edition it is your responsibility to make sure that you are working the correct problems.

Topics: We will learn how to apply the ideas of calculus to functions of several variables and vector fields.

Homework: Weekly homework will be due on Fridays. I will tell the graders that they can pick it up outside my office after 4pm. I encourage you to start working on the homework early and to talk to each other and to me if you need help. I encourage you to work with other students, but you should write up your assignments by yourself in your own words. You also need to acknowledge any help that you receive, from people or from written sources. You can write the names of your helpers at the top of you assignment.

Homework can be handed in again, if completed within the week following its return. The grade on the redone homework will replace the original grade. The grader reserves the right not to accept redone homework that is handed in more than a week after it was first returned. Late work may be accepted under certain circumstances. However, latework may not be redone, and feedback will likely not be timely.

ella work: We will also have frequent very short ella assignments. After each class I will ask you to look at a few (2-4) problems from the book to check your understanding of the material covered and to better prepare you for class discussion the following day. I may ask you to give very short repsonses to these questions on ella. You will receive full credt for a thoughtful response. Thoughtful responses include the correct answer, an incorrect response, a question letting me know where you are stuck. Your ella work will be counted as part of your class work and participation grade.
Grading: I will drop your lowest quiz grade. Your grade for the course will be computed as follows:

Homework: 15%
Class work and participation: 5%
Quizzes: 15%
Exam I: 20%
Exam II: 20%
Final: 25%
