For each of the following sentences, construct a suitable lexicon, and then translate it into our symbolic language. Show as much logical form as you can.

1. Softline militarists believe that civilians should be encouraged to engage in political activity.

2. Running quickly through the hot sauna caused Rhonda to have a heart attack.

3. Why does Rodney never answer when I want him to?

Part II: For each of the following give an indirect counterexample. Be sure that your counterexample is of the same relevant form, and that it is clearly unsound. Remember that the easiest way to make it clearly unsound is to make the premises clearly true and the conclusion clearly false.

1) No lawyers are scumbags.
Some scumbags are drug addicts.

Therefore, some lawyers are not drug addicts.

2) Some females are not kangaroos.
No Mount Holyoke students are males.

Therefore, no Mount Holyoke students are kangaroos.

3) The Statue of Liberty has been important to our country for over 150 years.

Therefore, it should be preserved.

4) Learning logic will make you think better.

Therefore, if you want to think better you should learn logic.

5) Human beings have a genetically inborn capacity for speech.
 Turtles do not.

Therefore, turtles cannot speak.
