Though David is not a Mount Holyoke Alumna, he was one of
my very first students. I thought you might enjoy learning
what he is doing since it fits the liberal arts mold! LL
Back to when I first met you. I was 10 or 11, and you were
right out of college. One of my favorite European "gigs"
has been with Les Arts Florissants; I am on the 1987
Harmonia Mundi France recording of Lully's ATYS,
and performed other times with them, such as the fully staged
Hippolyte et Aricie by Rameau. Rameau is one of my
all time loves.
I currently play with Philharmonia
BaroqueOrchestra, which has had many collaborations with
the Mark Morris Dance Company. The next joint production is
a fully staged PLATEE by Rameau at CalPerformances
(UC Berkeley).
If you use the Philharmonia site, it has a link to the real
estate brokerage for whom I work: Zephyr, in San Francisco.
Ostensibly, I am in real estate to support my musical endeavors.
I want to record a CD of my own sometime, and also sponsor
one of late 17th Century five-part music (BIber, Schmelzer,
etc. like we are doing in our October concert for PBO). I
am also in American Bach Soloists.
You will also see the product of years of working on my bowarm,
etc. At the Aspen Festival, in the 70's, I modeled it after
the Delay/Galamian students, without much understanding (I
was with Lillian Fuchs at the time). Then on to Kato Havas
in London, who gave me a "totality" of understanding
my mechanisms, and linking them with my heart and mind, softening
everything up and making it truly malleable. Karen Tuttle
filled in some interesting information, too. So I have had
some wonderful support from great teachers, all starting with
you.
