Laboratory MTWTh afternoon 1:15 to 5:05 PM. Unauthorized failure to pass the laboratory portion of the course will result in an overall final grade of F. YOU MUST COMPLETE and TURN IN EVERY LAB. Pre-laboratory write-ups must be done before the beginning of each laboratory. Laboratory reports are due at the beginning of the next laboratory period or as directed by the instructor. Late laboratory reports will receive a much lower grade. No laboratory make-ups in following weeks.

All examinations will be based on reading assignments, class lecutres, laboratory experiments, and recommended problems.

Quizzes There will be no quizzes this semester. Old quizzes from previous years are posted on this website to help you study for exams.

Homework Homework will be collected every Friday based on the previous week's material.

Three Midterm Examinations 450 points (150 points each)
Final Examination 200 points
Laboratory 200 points
Homework 150 points
TOTAL 1000 points

There will be no magical grade restitution in this class. All grades will count.

How to do well in this class Carefully study the book and lecture notes, working through problems on a separate sheet of paper as you go along. Ask questions on any material that you do not understand. Solve each of the homework problems, thinking about what information is provided and what you are asked to find; write down carefully thought-out ideas answers BEFORE checking the answer book. Working problems this way will help you to organize concepts and increase your ability to think critically. Work together in groups if you wish. Join PLUMS. Visit the tutors’ open hours. Come to my office hours.

Good grades are the result of hard work!
