Intro to COW

|
COW (Calculus on the Web) is a website located physically at Temple University. The site is overseen by an actual cow(!) who will give you homework problems and tell you how you are doing. To go to the site, click on the COW homework link on the course page, or enter the URL manually: http://www.math.temple.edu/~cow. You can browse through the books, chapters, and sections without logging in to the site, but to get credit for homework you MUST LOG IN! The COW already knows about you if you preregistered for the course. Otherwise you must get Professor Peterson to enter your name onto the COW's list. (Do this immediately if you are not already on the list!) When you first try to login, you will find you need to go to 'password exchange' to choose a COW password. You will have to type your name and number, and to select Mount Holyoke from among the various schools that use COW. Your number will be your MHC phone number. On subsequent visits, use your COW password. Once you are logged in, you can View Homework. Note which Book, Chapter, and Section has your homework, and click buttons to get there. The actual list of assigned problems will be visible, and it is up to you to navigate to them. You can also do problems that are not assigned, for additional practice, but be sure to do the assigned ones. You can attempt them as often as you want, and the COW may also offer help. A tip: do NOT hit the ENTER button, even if you tend to do this almost unconsciously. This seems to take you to the HOME page, frustrating if you were in the middle of doing a problem. Rather, use buttons to move along from one thing to another. |
