I will also be drawing on prominent members such as Stein, and Simone de Beauvoir, as well as on the legacy these women have left on today's society. A part of my oral presentation will also be consacrated to my personal observations of females roles in a corporate environment as I experienced during my internship in Paris.

A statistical annlysis of women in Europe

The most reliable and practical way to examine any field of study is to detatch oneself from the subjective side of the study and focus on that which cannot be disputed- that which is fact. This analysis of women and their roles in society will focus on a series of Quality of Life Indicators that will help us to gauge the progress of women in society through the twentieth century.
Quality of Life Indicators
  • abortion rights
  • life expectancy
  • suffrage
  • population
  • age of marriage
  • maternal mortality rates
  • year allowed to stand for election
  • legislative participation
  • literacy
  • education levels
  • economic activity by gender

Peasant Women in Bulgaria

The expose I will do is on Bulgarian women. I will be using a book called "Listen, daughter, and remember well..." by Martha Forsyth. The author holds degrees in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Radcliffe College and UCLA. As an undergrad student she became interested in Bulgarian folk music and was attracted at once to its vitality. "In 1978 she began researching songs in Bulgarian villages, and has spent many a happy hour since then recording "old songs from old ladies"." The book covers the life of Linka Gekova Gergova from the village of Bistritsa, Sofia. Folklore, dances, holidays, Bulgarian traditions and songs -- all mix to give a truthful representation of an ordinary peasant Bulgarian woman.
