This is a video of an individual Caenorhabditis elegans nematode worm, crawling on an agar plate covered with bacteria. As the worm crawls, it leaves tracks in the bacterial lawn. These worms are a wonderful model system for developmental biologist--each animal has an exact number of body cells (959), and the entire fate map for each cell has been worked out.
