Civry-en-Montagne sits on a high plateau overlooking a beautiful valley and the Grosbois Reservoir, a lake made at the turn of the century to regulate the water level in the Burgundy Canal. It takes 20 minutes by car to get to Dijon (a few minutes more to the archives) via the four-lane highway that connects the auto route to Paris with Dijon. In Civry, however, one would never know that such highways existed because tranquility and beautiful views reign there. In the vicinity of Civry are some of Burgundy's wonders, including the chateaux of Commarin and Chateauneuf as well as the Burgundy Canal; a bit further to the north is the Cistercian Abbey of Fontenay. It is a 20 minute walk to the lake; five minutes by car. There are no stores in the village but there are food stores within a five-minute drive. A couple times a week, bread, cheese, and meat can be purchased in the village from itinerant merchants in vans. The nearest town is Pouilly-en-Auxois, which boasts a population of 1800 and several good restaurants. The next map provides a closer look of Civry and its neighborhood..
