Great topic, reminds us of the humanity of the men and women we are studying. How important and precious their leisure time must have been? The items you have chosen indicate that they took advantage of what little down time they may have had as well took advantage of the parish/priest that they had to tithe. One of our prior readings (Smith?) described the relationship between the church/tithing/and festivals. Their was a definite reciprocity in the relationship. None of our readings specifically mention harvest festivals, these seem prevelant in other cultures, I wonder if the French peasantry took advantage of these times to "cut loose."
