Theme: The conservation of resources by peasent farmers as a survival tactic.

Argument: The peasent farmers in France in the 17th Century had very little resources to live off of. In order to survive they had to learn to conserve thier resources.

Evidence: Voyage in Auvergne: pg. 146- peasents stayed in the stable during the winter rather than using fire wood to keep warm.
Voyage in Auvergne: pg. 147- they drank water or a type of milk that flows from cheese when put under a press.

Connection: There are many connections in Cavanaugh's writting about peasent life, such as on pg. 16 when he writes about bread being the cornerstone of the peasent diet.
