: Theme: The conservation of resources by peasent farmers as a survival tactic.
THIS IS AN INTRIGUING IDEA, ORIGINAL TOO. RESOURCEFULNES, SKRIMPING, NO WASTE, ETC. THEY WERE NOT MEMBERS OF THE CONSUMER SOCIETY WITH PRODUCTS THAT ARE READILY THROWN OUT.

: Argument: The peasent farmers in France in the 17th Century had very little resources to live off of. In order to survive they had to learn to conserve thEIr resources.
THE DOCUMENTS PERTAIN TO THE LATE 18TH CENTURY. GOOD START. CONSIDER ENGENUITY, ETC.

: Evidence: Voyage in Auvergne: pg. 146- peasents stayed in the stable during the winter rather than using fire wood to keep warm.

: Voyage in Auvergne: pg. 147- they drank water or a type of milk that flows from cheese when put under a press.
GOOD EYE FOR THE IMPORTANCE OF A SMALL DETAIL. THIS IS THE WHEY AND YOU'RE EXACTLY RIGHT.

: Connection: There are many connections in Cavanaugh's writting about peasent life, such as on pg. 16 when he writes about bread being the cornerstone of the peasent diet. AND YET, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A BETTER CONNECTION COULD BE MADE THAT IS MORE DIRECTLY RELATED TO RESOURCEFULNESS, ETC.

AS WE DISCUSSED AFTER CLASS, IF YOU FIND THE EVIDENCE A TAD SLIM FOR THE ESSAY, THINK OF A WAY TO FLESH THE ESSAY OUT WITH EVIDENCE ABOUT THE CONDITIONS THAT ENCOURAGED RESOURCEFULNESS, ETC.
