The point of this essay is to identify what Imperialism is and whether or not the question of the United States being an imperialist country is true or not. We start with a general overview of an empire and globalization, how it is view today, how it came to being and how it was viewed in the past. In the 16th and 20th centuries the concepts of Empire and Globalization were tightly entwined. The proof of this fact is the colonization and expansion of Europe to the Americas and Australia. This expansion was due to a thirst for more land and power as well as an expansion of what Europe thought to be the perfect way of life and government. A “new England” was formed and predominantly the English language was used in these new territories as well as an English sense of political thought. In Europe the peoples to profit the most from this new concept of Globalization were the Jews and this fueled much resentment and anti-Semitism. It is no wonder than that Hitler, one of the most anti-Semitic minds of his time, came from Vienna; a large city of Jewish financial and intellectual elites. After 1945 a second phase of Globalization led by the US was put into place and a resurgence of Imperialism and pride in this notion was mustered in Great Britain. This resurgence of Imperialism was due to the fact that most x-colonies have failed to form their own independent states. Great Britain commenced to no longer skirt over the era of the British empire in their history lesson and view as a bad part of their history but instead commenced to venerate this part of their history and spend lengthily times discussing it. Because of the way that the US took power in this second phase of Globalization many have asked whether or not the US should be considered as an Empire. Many believe that when it comes to the way the US deals with Foreign policy they are because they involve themselves directly in the domestic policies of other states. September 11th was a challenge to the world order and Globalization. In order for the notion of US Imperialism to succeed the electorates must agree to give up US lives. The ideologies of US refuse to this; we are rooted in an anti-empirical struggle (i.e. our war of independence for Great Britain). In the past years Europe has tried to take US’s place in the world order and be independent/taken seriously as an Empire but they discredit themselves by going to the US for aide and tidy up it’s messes such as the Balkans conflict. To sum things up an Empire is known to be a more tolerant community of multiculturalism and led to the flowering of great nations such as Rome, the Ottoman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Based on this known fact the US strongly resembles the democratic Empires such as the ones stated above instead of that of the English and the Dutch. In the US outsiders can be assimilated and become elite people with powers such as governorship and senators (the melting pot). The definition of an Empire given in this article is a great power crucial to regional and global order of an era and that rules over large territories and many people. If we only used this definition to say whether or not the US could be considered an Empire than the response would bean irrefutable yes.
