Two Views on Globalization

Upon reading these articles I was interested in how the Wold Trade Center attacks and the War in Iraq are have affected globalization. The articles express how the atrocities on September 11th were made possible in part due to globalization. The terrorist knew that the World Trade Center was vital to the global economy as well as the United States. What I found interesting is how part of the reasoning behind the attacks were because of the negative aspects of globalization.
Another aspect of terror related globalization is biological weapons and nuclear bombing. Now that the wold is more accessible for trade and financial exchange, it is also more accessible to weapons exchange. Now just by typing a few phrases in google a person can find the recipe for a bomb. Terrorist can communicate across borders via the internet and cellphones. For protection, the author suggests that the U.S. tighten up security and allow weapons inspectors into the country as well as into more “risk” nations.
The war in Iraq has also greatly affected globalization. Billions of dollars have gone into funding and many nations relied on Iraq’s oil exports. In turn Iraq depends on the exports of other countries.
I felt as thought both articles highlighted the negative aspects of globalization, while neglecting the more positive aspects. It is true that part of the rise in terrorism can be attributed to globalization, but globalization is also one the best way’s to fight it as well. With the help of technology and wold wide support, terrorist are apprehended and brought to trial.
