globalization...

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary online, globalization means "to make global; especially : to make worldwide in scope or application." Assuming this definition, globalization began with European colonilaism. Europeans attempted to gain control over the indigenous people by expanding their territory and conforming native peoples to the benefit of their interest. However, globalization is not synonymous with growth and development. Homogeny doesn't mean success, it means that a powerful and rich group has the ability to dominate another weaker group. One can quantify globalization, yet development cannot be quantified.
