Globalization: Blessing or Not? (Revised)

Posted by Sadia Ahmed on January 31, 2005 at 21:15:18:

The existence of Globalization is not new; it dates back to ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Aztecs, and the Incas. However after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the importance and existence of globalization is being questioned. Wright and Samuelson wonder if the world should see globalization as a gift or whether it should grieve at its existence. This is because in addition to economic and financial benefits, globalization is responsible for causing war and terror in the present world. Trading between countries is a sign of progress and prosperity. However if this trade involves weapon and drug trafficking, it violates the entire concept of globalization. It is through Globalization that countries gain from each other, by narrowing their cultural, socio-economic, and political gaps. Conversely if globalization is widening these gaps between countries by war and terror then it should be avoided( which seems very unlikely to happen in todays world). Althgough most countries in the world are independent, they are interdependent on each other, in terms of trade, travel and business etc. Imagining a non-globalized world seems virtually impossible. Thus globalization will continue to grow, but at the same time will there be a rise in terrorism aswell? I don't think our world can or should handle any more destruction...
