Lab Exercise 2

1. The pattern of population density in England and Wales in 1851 is characterized by a large number of rural districts with low population density in comparison to several urban areas. As can be seen in Map 1, the urban areas of dense population include the regions around London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. Both Newcastle and Bristol are also examples of moderately populated areas in 1851. Most of England and Wales was still rural and scarcely populated during 1851 in comparison with future years. Most of Wales and northern England remained the most sparsely populated areas, while the central and southern areas of the nation, while still categorized as rural, and maintained a slightly denser population than in the greater part of Wales and in the north.
