History 283 Mapping the Memorable: A Cultural
and Environmental History |
|
| Course Description |
|
| This course studies the history of our college and scenic
campus from its origins in the 1830s to the present. It will entail research
in the Mount Holyoke College Archives, oral interviews of living alums,
and the building of a large web site to make the results available to the
wider world. In our collaborative research we'll recover the varied and
shifting ideas that have shaped the college and the physical campus over
time and attempt to document the memories and activities attached to sites
of educational and social life on the campus. Students will work collaboratively
to produce components of the the web site, using multimedia technology that
will be introduced in user-friendly labs. No previous web-page design
is required or expected. 2 class meetings; one lab. A speaking intensive course.
