| Zooming into the Manchester-Liverpool area we
observe a more complicated picture than expected. People are not only moving
in this region of high levels of economic development. People are also moving
out and most importantly they are moving around. In the 1861-71 map, the
districts of Manchester and Liverpool are the main attractions of in-migration.
It should be noted that Liverpool as a district shows low levels of out-migration.
However, the immediate surrounding district, which could have been the main
area of settlement, shows significant levels of in-migration in the range
of 15-65% and the greater area around Liverpool shows lower levels of in-migration
in the range of 1-15%. The regions surrounding the two districts show limited
(1-15%) levels of out migration. |
