1860 = decade between 1861 census and 1871 census

1870 = decade between 1871 census and 1881 census

1880 = decade between 1881 census and 1891 census

REGDISTRIC

Name of Census Registration District

Tpop[date]

Total population (by District) recorded at the beginning of the decade. For Decade 1850, for example, the total population in Districts for 1851.

Tm_mig[date]

Total number of MALES (aged 5 to 64) added or subtracted to a District’s population during the specified decade that is attributable to migration.  A positive number represents an increase from the beginning of the given decade to its end; a negative number represents a decrease over the same period.

Figures are estimates of the residuals that remain after 1) calculating the difference in population from one census to the next and 2) subtracting from that figure the difference due to natural increase (or decrease) [births less deaths].

Tf_mig[date]

Total number of FEMALES (aged 5 to 64) added or subtracted to a District’s population during the specified decade that is attributable to net migration. Positive or negative figures represent increases or decreases as above.

Tmig[date]

Total number of INDIVIDUALS (males and females, aged 5 to 64) added or subtracted to a District’s population during the specified decade that is attributable to net migration. Positive or negative figures represent increases or decreases as above.

Tpmig[date]

Total PERCENT CHANGE in population due to estimated net migration [for all age and sex groups]

M5_14

Percentage change in Males aged 5 to 14 in a District’s population attributable to migration during the specified decade. [Estimated]

For Decade = 1880, for example, a positive value of 5.28185 for a given District means that the population of Males aged 5 to 14 in 1891 was 5.28 percent larger than it had been in 1881, owing to in-migration.  Accordingly, a negative value of -5.28185 would indicate a decrease due to out-migration of 5.28 percent.

M15_24

As above, percentage change in Males aged 14 to 24 attributable to migration

M25_34

Percentage change in Males aged 25 to 34 attributable to migration.

M35_44

Percentage change in Males aged 34 to 44 attributable to migration.

M45_54

Percentage change in Males aged 45 to 54 attributable to migration

M55_64

Percentage change in Males aged 55 to 64 attributable to migration

F5_14

Percentage change in Females aged 5 to 14 attributable to migration

F15_24

Percentage change in Females aged 15 to 24 attributable to migration

F25_34

Percentage change in Females aged 25 to 34 attributable to migration

F35_44

Percentage change in Females aged 35 to 44 attributable to migration

F45_54

Percentage change in Females aged 45 to 54 attributable to migration

F55_64

Percentage change in Females aged 55 to 64 attributable to migration

Dbase tables

These are attribute tables that can be joined with a spatial theme/table such as any of the census registration district themes, i.e., Census 1861, etc.

popmig19.dbf

This is the main combined attribute table with information on 1)population and population density 2) total percent change in population due to net migration 3) rail density in kilometers per 1000 kilometers of area.  Each of these variables are identified by date. For example: Total % migration for 1851-61; Total % migration for 1861-71, etc.

mig[dates]t.dbf

Change due to net migration by Age and Sex group and by Decade.  For example: mig8191t.dbf is the attribute table for the net migration information from 1881 to 1891 by Age and Sex group, i.e., % change for males 5-14, males 15-24, . . . .females 5-14, females 15-24, etc.
