I don't think its the government's job to keep Americans from indulging in anything that could be considered bad for them. Don't you think thats a decision that Americans can make for themselves? One of the founding principles of our country is freedom and taking away our freedom to partake in what could be hazerdous to our health would be violating our rights. Also, where would you draw the line for what should be eliminated? Soda? Alcohol? Cheesecake? Cars? They are all potentially bad for us, and kill hundreds and thousands of people every year, but should it be the government's decision as to whether we can associate with them or not? Obviously the government needs to put some sort of line down (they can just let people do anything they want.) I think its a better idea for the government to set stricter standards for what cigarette companies can and cannot do, or spend more money on prevention programs.
