Philosophy 373: The Philosophy of Art
Topic: The Philosophy of Arthur Danto
![]() |
Arthur Danto is the philosopher of art who reflected most deeply on the significance of such art as the Andy Warhol "Brillo Box" pictured at left. In this seminar, we will consider Danto's claims about contemporary and how it has changed our understanding of art and, indeed, the relationship between art and philosophy. Danto is still active and writes art criticism for The Nation. Both philosophy and art students are welcome for what should prove to be a most illuminating consideration of the changing nature of art and its philosophy. We will meet for 2 1/2 hours on Wednesday afternoons. Required Texts, all by Arthur Danto: For more information contact: Tom Wartenberg email: twartenb@mtholyoke.edu phone: 538-2273
