GRADING


 

Grading is against the spirit of Zen and my religion. And yet this has to be done to lead an academic course in a college. The most important assignment is to practice Zen during the course period, which includes meditation, Zen walk, taking care of your body, diet and being happy. As much as I can gather from your Zen activities from the diaries that you will write, which is the first requirement and will be due before the spring vacation, and by the final paper, (or final project) which will be due by the end of the semester.


Class attendance: 40%

Zen activities (based on the journal entry) and class participation: 30%

*Final paper (7-10 pages long of topics related to Zen)and/or final creative project: 30%

Examples can include, but not limited to

The project should embrace Japanese cultural elements in itself and should reflect some learnt knowledge of Zen Buddism. In addition, an explanatory paper in length of 2-3 pagers is required. You need to explain the relationship of your particular project with Zen Buddism.
