Eva Paus is Professor of Economics at Mount Holyoke College. She holds a Ph.D. and B.A. (summa cum laude) from the University of Pittsburgh.

She has published widely on trade strategies in Latin America, and on the impact of trade liberalization on industrialization, wages and productivity in developing countries. Her publications include "Structural Adjustment and Competitiveness in Transition Economies: Lessons from the East German Manufacturing Sector," World Development 1998, "The Implications of Increasing Economic Openness for Real Wages in Developing Countries, 1973-90," World Development 1997 (with Mike Robinson), "Exports, Economic Growth and the Consolidation of Peace in El Salvador," World Development 1995, "Economic Growth through Neoliberal Restructuring? Insights from the Chilean Experience," Journal of Developing Areas 1994, "Adjustment and Development in Latin America: The Failure of Peruvian Heterodoxy, 1985-90," World Development 1991, "The Caribbean Basin Initiative and Economic Development: The Missing Links," Latin American and Caribbean Contemporary Record 1990, "Direct Foreign Investment and Economic Development in Latin America: Perspectives for the Future," Journal of Latin American Studies 1989, and Struggle Against Dependence. Nontraditional Export Growth in Central America and the Caribbean, Westview Press, 1988 (edited).

In her teaching, Professor Paus has been at the forefront of introducing active learning pedagogies into her economics classes; in particular debates, simulations, and case method teaching. As the founding co-director of the Weissman Center for Leadership at Mount Holyoke College, Professor Paus was instrumental in promoting active learning strategies and engagement with critical issues of public concern across the curriculum. In support of her research and teaching projects, Professor Paus has received grants or fellowships from the DAAD, the Fulbright Association, the Hewlett Foundation, the Inter American Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, the Tinker Foundation, the Whiting Foundation, and Mount Holyoke College.

Professor Paus was born and raised in Germany and lives in Amherst, Massachusetts with her husband and two children.
