• Director General of the World Health Organization (1998-2003)
• Three time Prime Minister of Norway (1981, 1986-1989, 1990-1996)
• Chair of the World Commission on Environment and Development (1983-1987), which resulted in the influential report Our Common Future. The report developed the concept of 'sustainable development' and provided the impetus for the Rio de Janeiro Earth summit in 1992.
