Thanksgiving Hosting

In order to provide international students with a chance to experience this uniquely American holiday by spending it with a family in the U.S., the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives is sponsoring two programs (on and off campus) for which you may apply.

OFF CAMPUS
Members of the Class of 1980 who live in the New England and New York area have graciously agreed to host international students for all or part of Thanksgiving Break. This is a tradition established a few years ago which allows international students to spend time off campus with an MHC alumna and her family during this break. You are responsible for transportation costs if taking a bus or train and should plan to arrive at the bus or train station in the city nearest to your host's home. Your host will likely be able to pick you up there. Bus and train schedules are available online: http://www.peterpan.com/ (bus) and http://www.amtrak.com/ (train).  You may also want to check mhc.rides on WebNews for a cheaper transportation option.

ON CAMPUS
If you prefer to stay on campus during Thanksgiving Break, but would like to have dinner with a family in South Hadley on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 22, 2007), this is also possible. Families will provide transportation to and from MHC.

To participate in the program, print out the application, fill it out and drop it in the box labeled “THANKSGIVING BREAK” in the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives. The deadline for submission of applications for an off-campus host is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007; the deadline for submission for a South Hadley host is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.
